Barrister Maria Steen has said she is “grateful and humbled” to those who wrote her name on the ballot as part of spoiled votes in the Presidential Election. Speaking on RTÉ’s This Week, Ms Steen said there were lots of issues mentioned on the ballots and that they “should not be ignored”. Broadcaster and journalist Claire Byrne has signed off from RTÉ Radio 1, saying, “It’s time to hand over the baton.” The presenter announced in August that she would be leaving RTÉ to take over the morning show on Newstalk, where she previously worked from 2004 to 2010, from veteran broadcaster Pat Kenny, who is moving to the station’s weekend schedule.
