Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is trying to use her recent positive relationship with President Donald Trump to get some breaks for her state — on both tariffs and Medicaid changes.

Whitmer asked Trump to collaborate on finding a new tenant for the Genesee County megasite that lost a major semiconductor manufacturing deal last month.

"The key channel by which secondary tariffs on buyers of Russian energy could impact the global economy would be through the level of energy prices," says Kieran Tompkins from the consultancy Capital Economics. If the tariffs work, they will cut the flow of Russian oil and gas to global markets.
