Two Pennsylvania state troopers were shot near Thompson. One suspect is dead. Gov. Josh Shapiro and officials are responding.

Two Pennsylvania State Police troopers are stable after they were shot Thursday morning in Susquehanna County, officials said.Pennsylvania State Trooper Rob Urban confirmed to CBS News that the suspect died and both troopers were flown to local hospitals.

At a press conference in Gibson, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris said Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins III were struck by an "ambush" of gunfire when they responded to 20141 state Route 171, around 5 miles north of the Town of Thompson, at 11:17 a.m.
