The Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court will pronounce the quantum of punishment to the convict of the RG Kar rape and murder case at 2.45 pm on Monday. During the hearing of the case, the Central Bureau of Investigation sought "capital punishment" for the accused Sanjay Roy.

At 10.40 am, the accused, Sanjoy Roy, was brought to court in a convoy of two police cars with blacked out windows and several police vans.

Junior doctors held a protest outside the Sealdah Court on Monday demanding stricter punishment for the convict Sanjay Roy in the RG Kar rape-murder case.Speaking to ANI, a junior doctor asserted that they would approach the higher court with their demand.

Notably, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had pushed for death sentence for Roy. In the court Roy opposed death penality. "I am being framed, and have not committed any crime. I have not done anything and still, I have been held guilty," Roy told the court ahead of sentencing in the case," the convict said as reported by PTI.
