India hasn’t given the country’s oil refiners instructions to stop buying Russian oil, according to people familiar, days after US President Donald Trump blasted New Delhi for the energy purchases.

Imposing a complete ban on Russia could prove to be risky for the Trump administration. India started buying large quantities of oil from Russia from 2022 only after sanctions were imposed on Russia by Europe.

Several Indian State-controlled refineries have stopped purchasing Russian oil, dealing a major blow to the Russian war effort.
