A wildfire that started in northwest Colorado on Saturday afternoon has now burned around 4,000 acres. Evacuations and closures have been put in place near two of the fires burning to the south of Meeker.

As wildfires continue to start and burn around the western slope, the Grand Valley will be inundated with smoke.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis verbally declared a disaster emergency on Sunday for the Elk Creek Fire in Rio Blanco County, southeast of Meeker.
