Utah has hired Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Alex Jensen to be its men’s basketball coach. Jensen, who was the top target for the Utes, replaces Craig Smith, who was fired in late February during his fourth season at Utah.

Ten days after firing Craig Smith, Utah has landed its next men's head basketball coach. The school is hiring Dallas Mavericks assistant Alex Jensen, sources confirmed to CBS Sports. Jensen is a 48-year-old alum who played for Rick Majerus and was on the legendary 1997-98 Runnin' Utes team that went all the way to the national title game against Kentucky.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, assistant coach Alex Jensen has accepted the job to become the next Utah Utes men’s basketball head coach. Utah fired Craig Smith, who was was in his fourth season in charge of the program, last month. He was 65-62.
