The New York Yankees have seen Anthony Volpe have a very disappointing season, and he may be playing his way off the team.

We join Volpe in the top of the eighth with the hard-throwing righty Lake Bachar on in relief. Volpe’s already in the midst of a decent game with a pair of singles in his previous two at-bats, and in general he has looked like a hitter who’s far more comfortable with what he’s trying to accomplish at the plate of late.

Lost a bit in Friday night’s train wreck of a loss — the Yankees fell to the Marlins, 13-12, after holding leads of 6-0, 9-4 and 12-10 — was a 4-for-5 performance by Volpe that included a tying home run in the eighth inning after the Yankees had fallen behind 10-9.
