The Oregon Legislature will try to pass a 3-cent gas tax increase instead of a complete overhaul of transportation funding.

Without the payroll tax increase, officials at Portland’s public transit agency TriMet said they’d have to cut 27% of their bus service, eliminating 45 of 79 bus lines.
