Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu, who was ostensibly part of the competition for the everyday job at third base, seems highly unlikely to be ready for Opening Day. LeMahieu, who suffered a calf injury during his first spring training game this past Saturday,
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman hinted the team won’t make a blockbuster trade before Opening Day. LeMahieu told reporters Thursday he suffered a Grade 1 or 2 calf strain.
LeMahieu, who still has two years and $30 million left on his contract, entered camp with a chance to win the third base job, but now that competition is down to Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza. It would not be surprising to see the Yankees add to that position before Opening Day, either, as they often have late in camp the last few years.
