The first human case of West Nile Virus in Michigan this year has been detected in a Livingston County resident, the state announced. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) announced the detection in a news release on Aug. 8. No information was provided on the individual who contracted the virus.

Lab tests show increased virus presence in both rural and urban areas, with warmer temperatures and dry weather contributing to the spread.

Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Authority said more cases of West Nile Virus have been detected in Saginaw County mosquitoes.
