By Clay Masters and Brian Bakst Minnesota lawmakers will have far less fiscal wiggle room and might have to take steps to head off a potential deficit, according to a new economic forecast that will set the tone for budget discussions that start in January in a politically reconfigured state Capitol.

Minnesota budget officials are cautioning of a "growing structural imbalance" that could put the state in the red in future years. The latest: The warning comes after state economists released an updated forecast showing a $616 million surplus at the end of the next two-year budget cycle,
