Cyclonic storm Fengal has commenced making landfall close to Puducherry and it may approximately take 4 hours for it to cross the coast completely, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

As the cyclonic storm made landfall near Puducherry on the Tamil Nadu coast on Saturday evening, both Chennai and Tamil Nadu faced flooding and waterlogging. Indian Army personnel took a quick call and rescued people from a flooded area in the aftermath of the landfall.

A relief operation led by the Indian Army and NDRF also began in the morning, with over 100 individuals being evacuated in the first two hours.

Parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry experienced heavy rains due to the landfall process of cyclone Fengal. Senior officials in three southern states, including Andhra Pradesh assigned to supervise and coordinate related tasks with district authorities are stationed in their respective districts.

Cyclone Fengal has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and is expected to hit north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts with winds of 70-80 kmph.

In the undated footage, an Airbus A320 Neo was seen aborting its landing shortly after touching down. The aircraft tilted briefly to the left before stabilising and ascending back into the clouds.

Due to adverse weather conditions amid Cyclone Fengal, Chennai airport had suspended its operations till 4 am on Sunday.
