OnePlus’s existing implementation is a little different to how it was on older iPhones. While Apple’s solution was a binary choice of silent or loud, OnePlus’s Alert slider is a three-stage switch which can jump between muted, silent and ringing. But the concept is the same: an easy way to silence your phone without needing to look at it.

OnePlus has finally said that it wants to move beyond the popular and iconic alert slider button for a new addition on its phones. This update from the company validates the rumors that Oppo (and OnePlus) are considering a customizable hardware button akin to the iPhone,

Future OnePlus phones will use a multi-function Action button instead of an Alert Slider. This marks a major change in OnePlus' brand identity, as the Alert Slider is fairly unique in the world of Android.
