A judge ordered a pair of landlords to pay $80,000 to tenants they had threatened to call immigration enforcement on amid a rent dispute in 2020.

A pedestrian hit by a Cook County Sheriff's officer's squad car in Glenview, Illinois, has died. The crash happened on Tuesday morning. Police said shortly after 5 a.m., the woman was walking on Milwaukee Avenue northwest of Golf and Greenwood roads when she was hit by the squad car.

Mercedes Smith, 28 and a pedestrian, was hit by a Cook County Sheriff’s Department squad car around 5:10 a.m. Tuesday in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue, Glenview police said.

The crash happened just after 5 a.m. Tuesday, before the sun came up, on a stretch of Milwaukee Avenue, north of Golf Road. Glenview Police said a Cook County Sheriff’s Department SUV hit a pedestrian.
