Some residents were slowly returning to their homes in the Pacific Palisades Sunday, as containment of the deadly Palisades Fire grew to 56% Sunday ahead of another dangerous Santa Ana wind event expected to bring isolated gusts as high as 100 mph.

With Santa Ana winds set to again hit the Los Angeles area, 21 Oregon strike teams made up of nearly 400 Oregon firefighters are putting out spot fires and embers, as winds could soon reach nearly 85 miles per hour and cause more blazes to break out.

Two major fires are still uncontained in the Los Angeles area with red flag warnings issued for Monday, meaning powerful Santa Ana winds will make conditions hard for crews to fight already devastating blazes.

Santa Ana winds can bring disruptive impacts to daily life in Los Angeles and parts of southern California, but when coupled with wildfires they can escalate the situation rapidly, causing the fires to take hold and spread at great speed.
