The Dec. 16 special election is to fill the District 37 Senate seat left vacant when Yates took over as Jefferson County clerk following the death of longtime clerk Bobbie Holsclaw. Democrat Gary Clemons and Republican Calvin Leach are facing off for the seat.
Early voting will then take place from Dec. 11 to Dec. 13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. according to the County Clerk's office. The special election will then take place on Dec. 16 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
