On the third Monday in January, Americans celebrat Jr. Day, in honor of one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement. King’s contributions to the movement and to democracy helped bring about the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
