Wednesday’s game between the Celtics and Clippers was highly entertaining. Boston required overtime to win despite having Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Derrick White in the lineup. The Clippers were down four starters (James Harden, Norman Powell, Kawhi Leonard, and Ivica Zubac), but the available players didn’t use that as an excuse.
Jaylen Brown scored 25 points, Jayson Tatum added 24 and the Boston Celtics rallied past the Los Angeles Clippers 117-113 in overtime when both teams were missing key players.
Eric Gordon, SG/SF, Philadelphia 76ers (97.4%) Gordon has scored 24 or more fantasy points in four straight games, and he's played at least 29 minutes in three of them. His primary value comes from scoring, and he should see plenty of field goal attempts against the Nuggets. Any rebounds, assists or steals he adds are a bonus.
The Celtics finished their road trip 3-1 after knocking off the Mavericks on Saturday night behind a big third quarter from Derrick White.
The Celtics need to execute better, especially during fourth-quarter possessions. They also need to sharpen up on offense and defense.
After Houston’s 114-112 victory, Brown said Boston entered the game intending to neutralize Jalen Green, Fred VanVleet and Alperen Sengun. The Celtics accomplished that, holding the Rockets’ top three leading scorers to 30 total points on 9-of-32 shooting (3-for-14 on 3-pointers).
James Harden (24), Norman Powell (23) and Ivica Zubac (25) all scored 20+ points in the loss, snapping LA’s two-game win streak. Kawhi Leonard played a season-high 28 minutes and finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block.
Silver may have to consider rule changes to discourage the trend of teams littering games with 3-point attempts.
Acommon misconception about today's NBA is that as teams and players have mastered the art of efficient scoring, defense has come to matter less. The reality is the exact opposite: The evolution of offense has made defense more important than ever.
As opponents have tried to dent the Celtics’ championship armor, however, Tatum has remained consistent. He ranks sixth in the NBA in scoring, (26.7 points per game). He has scored at least 30 points in 18 out of 45 games. And he remains on track to finish with career highs in rebounds (9.0) and assists (5.4) per game.
Ime Udoka's Rockets were effective in limiting Tatum in the Celtics' loss Monday, but Joe Mazzulla's team adjusted and thrived in beating the Bulls.
