The scuffling Philadelphia Phillies suffered a blow Saturday when they placed first baseman Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list because of right wrist inflammation before losing to the Pirates 2-1.
Four teams are reported to be the most aggressive buyers, ahead of this year's MLB trade deadline. The deadline is July 31.
Bryce Harper has made an enormous impact on the Phillies' lineup when healthy. Just like in past seasons, the offense has struggled to score without him. Harper went on to confirm that this injury is the same issue he dealt with throughout last season. This time around, it started early and hasn't gone away.
Whether the new wrist injury is also related to the hit-by-pitch is unclear. Phillies manager Rob Thomsen said on Saturday that Harper has been coping with soreness in the wrist for “a while,” as quoted by an MLB.com report.
He is hitting .258/.368/.446 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs in 57 games for the Phillies. While losing his bat creates a hole in the middle of Philadelphia's lineup, ensuring Harper's health in the long run is surely more important for a team in contention.
