The number of mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile virus continues to climb. On Monday, August 11, the Erie County Department of Health announced that a mosquito sample collected in Millcreek Township on July 29 had tested positive for West Nile virus.

West Nile virus is primarily transmitted through mosquito bites and, while the majority of individuals stay asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms, some can face serious, life-altering effects or even death.
