The second death of a child with measles has been reported in West Texas amid an outbreak that has infected hundreds in the region and across state lines.

A unvaccinated school-age child died in February in Lubbock — the first measles death in the U.S. in a decade. In early March, an adult in New Mexico who was unvaccinated and did not seek medical care became the second measles-related death.

An 8-year-old girl has died of measles in Texas. The patient was unvaccinated and had no underlying health issues, the hospital where the child received care told PEOPLE. This marks the second death of a child since the state’s outbreak began.
