A pedestrian hit by a Cook County Sheriff's officer's squad car in Glenview, Illinois, has died. The crash happened on Tuesday morning. Police said shortly after 5 a.m., the woman was walking on Milwaukee Avenue northwest of Golf and Greenwood roads when she was hit by the squad car.

Mercedes Smith, 28 and a pedestrian, was hit by a Cook County Sheriff’s Department squad car around 5:10 a.m. Tuesday in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue, Glenview police said.

Mercedes Smith had to be taken off life support this week after being hit by the squad car in north suburban Glenview. Marissa Sulek reports.
