Flags will fly at half-staff from Dec. 29 until Jan. 28 - through Inauguration Day - in honor of former President Jimmy Carter.

The White House ordered public flags to be displayed at half-staff for a period of 30 days from Carter's day of death, who died Dec. 29. Flags are flown at half-mast on ships and at naval stations. On shore, flags are flown at half-staff, meaning the flagpole is attached to a building or stuck in the ground.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff until sunset on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at all local and state buildings, installations and grounds throughout the state.

Flags at the federal and state levels are being flown at half-staff to honor former President Jimmy Carter who died on Dec. 29, 2024.

Flags will remain at half-mast and half-staff most of the month for Jimmy Carter's death. Jan. 9 will be a national day of mourning for his funeral.
