CANNON FALLS, Minn. — On the same day President Donald Trump’s 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico went into effect, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen visited a corn and soybean farm in southeast Minnesota to highlight the impact a trade war would have on the state’s farmers.

Minnesotan’s could see an increase in prices soon thanks to President Trump’s tariffs and the reciprocal tariffs from Canada, Mexico and China turning it into a trade war. That’s according to University of Minnesota marketing professor Paul Vaaler.

Canada is delaying its plan for a second phase of retaliatory tariffs against the US after President Donald Trump exempted Canadian and Mexican goods covered by the North American trade agreement.
