The third edition of the in-season men's college basketball Power Rankings brings with it a third change at the No. 1 spot. And after what we saw this week from Dusty May's Michigan team in Vegas, the Wolverines left no doubt about whether their newfound standing at the top is deserving.
Per ESPN, Michigan is the first team in the AP Poll era, which extends to 1948, with consecutive wins by at least 30 points against ranked teams. Wednesday’s win was Michigan’s most lopsided over an AP-ranked team ever. Gonzaga hadn’t lost by that much since 1990, nine years before its current coach, Mark Few, took over.
The Athletic went all-access with the Wolverines as they pummeled Gonzaga by 40 points to win the Players Era Festival.
Before the season, coach Dusty May said he wanted the Wolverines to be one of the best defensive teams in the country. They looked the part against San Diego State.
