Tech company Meta recently experienced a massive outage that affected the functioning of its apps, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This has made many netizens and social media users curious about the situation and wonder why Facebook and other social media applications went down.

Outage tracker Downdetector shows big spikes for Instagram with 70,000 outage reports above average and Facebook, which had over 100,000 outage reports, as of Wednesday afternoon. Outage reports began to decline in volume after a peak around 1:10 p.m. ET.

Over 22,000 people reported issues with Facebook this evening and over 18,000 struggled to use WhatsApp, according to Downdetector.
