The Huskies (8-4) wrested control of the game in the second half and beat UMass, 47-42, before 10,365 at McGuirk Alumni Stadium on Saturday to pad their bowl resume with their eighth win, the most by the football program since the Big East championship and Fiesta Bowl year of 2010.

UMass and UConn were all set up for the big one. The two programs played 77 times before, but this was the first time that a trophy sponsored by an NIL collective would be on the line. Sure, UConn was 7-4 coming into the game and UMass was 2-9.

The Midnight Ride Collective, an NIL collective for the UMass football program revealed “The Southwick Jug” that was made to represent and be awarded to the winner of the rivalry game with UConn. The Huskies ended up coming out on top during the game on Saturday by the score of 47-42.
