New Jersey declared it will enter a State of Emergency Thursday afternoon ahead of possible floods and severe thunderstorms which are expected to impact the area. Acting Governor Tahesha Way declared that New Jersey will enter a State of Emergency at 2 p.

The New York City area and New Jersey declared states of emergency Thursday as heavy rain with the potential for flash floods approached the region. Weather is expected to dump several inches of rain in the New York-New Jersey areas as residents make their evening commutes home.

The state of emergency is effective as of 2 p.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service expects the heaviest rain between 2 and 9 p.m.
