Thailand on Monday summoned the Myanmar ambassador to push for the release of four Thai nationals detained after Myanmar naval vessels reportedly fired on fishing boats. Fishery officials in Ranong have issued a warning for all vessels in coastal waters to take precautions when fishing near the Thai-Myanmar border.

Myanmar’s navy opened fire on two Thai fishing vessels operating in their territorial waters, causing one Thai fisher to drown. 31 Thai fishers are now being detained in Myanmar, while Thailand says they are working to secure their release.
