Public health authorities are seeking to determine if a Marin County child stricken with bird flu could have potentially contracted the illness by drinking infected raw milk that was subject to a recall.

The patient was visiting the county from out of state during the Thanksgiving holiday, according to the public health office.

Health officials in Marin County are investigating a possible H5N1 bird flu case in a child. Officials have been investigating since last week and are working with the California Department of Public Health an the Centers for Disease Control to determine how the child was exposed.

A child who became ill during a visit to Marin, prompting tests for avian influenza, had consumed unpasteurized milk, the county reported.

A child in the North Bay who became sick from a suspected case of bird flu last month has recovered. On Tuesday, Marin County health officials said the child drank raw milk before testing positive for Influenza A.
