On Wednesday, the day after a federal judge in Oregon and a state judge in Washington blocked a merger between two supermarket giants, Albertsons canceled the $24.6 billion merger agreement and sued Kroger.

Two judges, one federal and another in Washington state, ruled on Tuesday against Kroger ’s $25 billion takeover bid for Albertsons, granting court orders blocking the deal.

Albertsons is giving up on its merger with Kroger a day after it was rejected in two courts, and it is suing the grocery chain, saying it didn’t do enough to secure regulatory approval of the $24.6 billion agreement.
