A brushfire in Maui, Hawaii, rapidly grew from a quarter-acre to 500 acres on Sunday, the authorities said.
Maui County authorities are reporting the Kahikinui brush fire, which began Sunday mauka of Piʻilani Highway near mile markers 24, was at 85% containment as of 1 p.m. Monday. With better mapping, the fire is now estimated at 330 acres,
Maui Fire Department firefighters continue efforts to contain an active brush fire in the Kahikinui area. In an 8 a.m. update on Monday, June 16, Maui County officials reported that the brush fire has been mapped at approximately 330 acres and is 80% contained.

KAHIKINUI (Island News) -- A fast growing brush fire on Maui has many people on the move Sunday. As of late afternoon it was reportedly up to 200 acres. Evacuation orders were issued Sunday morning by the Maui Emergency Management Agency for dozens of homes near mile marker 24 and 25 in Kahikinui due to the fire fueled by strong winds.
